Hair Pro Secret

Everyone knows that when it comes to an updo you want hair that’s a bit dirty to give your style some staying power…another trick is dry shampoo. Simply spray it onto your bobby pins to create a bit of friction between your hair and the pin and your style will last and last and last.

Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year?

Though I know I’ll still be wearing Emerald (Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2013) in 2014 you can expect to see lots of bright, gorgeous, Radiant Orchid! This new “it” shade–a purple with fuchsia and pink undertones–flatters most skin and hair tones and is already saturating the market in beauty, fashion and home decor. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute  says “it inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health,” and she goes on to describe this flattering-for-all shade as “surprisingly versatile.”

Whether you’re a purist and will stick with Radiant Orchid as is, or you prefer purple, pink or fuchsia, you’ll have lots of choices. Check out some of my favorites, and get ready to turn heads.

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in Diva, $25 at shiseido.com. Liquid lipstick with intense color. It’s moisturizing, non-bleed and has a gorgeous lacquer-like finish.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Orchid, $26 at sephora.com. Glides onto lids easily (no tugging or pulling) and really brings out the green in my eyes.

Laura Geller Beauty INKcredible Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Purple Rain, $20 at Ulta.com. Highly pigmented color won’t smudge, smear or run.

Sinful Colors Professional Nail Enamel in Dream On, $1.99 at walgreens.com. An inexpensive, easy way to be on-trend!

Voda Swim “Sports Illustrated” Bikini in Fuchsia Shimmer, $66 (top), $44 (bottom) at vodaswim.com. Called thus because it was featured in Sports Illustrated! It doesn’t get much sexier, for those who find themselves poolside.

Proenza Schouler Mini Pouch Crossbody Bag, $1325 at Saksfifthavenue.com. If money is no object, this crossbody is the must-have bag of the year!

H&M Fleece Top, $29.95 at hm.com. Because you want to look good while working hard for that body.

Sticky Shoes!

I’ve discovered a genius product that I wish I’d found years ago. Sticky Shoes shoe tape is a double sided super-strong adhesive tape that keeps your shoes right where they’re supposed to be, securely on your feet!

No more slipping and sliding out of heels that are slightly big. Simply peel the backing on each double-sided strip and and firmly press down on the inside heel portion of your shoe. Done! Those shoes aren’t going anywhere you aren’t. Walk, skip and run with confidence–you won’t leave those shoes behind!

Sticky Shoes, 12 pairs/$8.95, www.stickyshoes.com.

Step in to the BlowOut Bar

There’s just something about a great blowout. Yes, you look a whole lot better but it’s that addictive extra boost of confidence that makes you strut your stuff until your next shampoo.

I recently attended Blow In Blow Out’s grand opening event and felt pampered from the moment I stepped inside this cool, modern, gorgeous salon. I was offered a drink and something to eat while I eyed the apothecary jars full of hot pink, white and black gum balls. Drinks, food and candy don’t hurt but I came for the beauty and needed to find out if this blowout bar was worth spreading the news. I’m happy to report that it is!

Usually, my favorite part of a salon visit is the head massage while being shampooed and this one did not disappoint. Then, I got lost in conversation with another writer while under the dryer as a deep-conditioning Argan Mask replenished my dry, frazzled ends. Shown illustrations of six possible styles I opted for “The Glam Girl”…who wouldn’t want to rock a sexy vibe with a bit of wave and lots of movement?!! I couldn’t have been happier and better yet, my hair looked as great on day 3 as it did on day 1. Besides the skilled stylist I think it had something to do with Blow In Blow Out’s new line of haircare products, used in the salon and available for purchase. There’s a sulfate free, moisturizing Extreme Cream Shampoo, a clarifying Peppermint Shampoo and Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioners, a Detangler, Hair Polish and even a light-hold Hair Spray.

Thanks to Tara Galatt’s new Blow In Blow Out in Summit, NJ I  predict the local ladies of Summit and those living in the surrounding towns will be strutting their stuff a lot more often! Priced at just $35, a blowout session is something I’ll be booking again and again. It’s located at 330 Springfield Ave. in Summit, NJ. Call 908-273-4947 for more information, to book an appointment or party, buy a series of blowouts or inquire about their products.

*If you happen to be in the area from now through November 28th please stop by Blow In Blow Out to participate in The Gratitude Graffiti Project. Neon markers are available outside the store windows for you to contemplate and express what you are thankful for. For more info. contact blowin-blowout.com or thegratitudegraffitiproject.com.

Details, Details…

When your outfit has interesting detail to spare (think studs, fringe or sequins), forego any extra adornment and keep your jewelry and any other embellishment clean and minimal to keep the look modern.

What Stylish Girls Know That You Don’t

The mixed-temp days of fall makes it very hard to give up some of my summer wardrobe faves entirely. I might even take things a bit too far by wearing flip flops until the first snowflake hits the ground…but that’s just me. Though summer shoes should most definitely be tucked away until at least Spring, you can make your warm-weather clothes work overtime and look extra-stylish in the process. Here, some savvy layering know-how.

Keep your summery, flowy dresses, skirts and even shorts and pair them with opaque tights, boots or booties and your choice of the following add-ons:

Tuck in Guaranteed

When I’m getting dressed I usually leave my shirt out or in that half-tucked limbo because whenever I fully tuck a top it doesn’t stay and I end up looking disheveled. Thanks to a recent press event where I came across Bradamant bodysuits (a blouse-bodysuit hybrid) I can now tuck with the best of them!

Designed by Tamar Daniel, Bradamant bodysuits are a sleeker, smarter, way cooler version of their super-skintight cousins that were around in the 90’s, but instead of spandex the fabrics are silk, chambray, jersey and lambskin and the fitted or blousy styles are all modern. Better yet, they’re slimming since they add no volume to the hip area and they’re designed to add lift to your bottom without any visible panty lines. You’ll feel comfy and look polished and pulled-together all day long, no matter how much bending and reaching and stretching you do.

www.bradamant.com, $58 and up.
